Marble

Marble is a metamorphic rock, composed wholly or in large part of calcite or dolomite crystals. Marble ranges in colour from snow-white to grey and black - many varieties being shades of red, yellow, pink, green or buff. The term marble is loosely applied to any limestone or dolomite that take a good polish and is otherwise suitable as a building stone or ornamental stone.

Granite

Granite is a coarse-grained rock found in plutons: large, deep-seated bodies of rock that slowly cooled from the molten state. It is the typical plutonic rock. Granite can be pink to dark grey, or even black.

Limestone

Limestone is an organic sedimentary rock. This means it was formed from the remains of tiny shells and micro-skeletons deposited on the sea-bed. Limestone is made up of calcium carbonate. It has many uses.

Slate

Slate is a fine-grained, foliated, homogenous metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash. Slate is usually dark, but it can be colourful too. High quality slate is an excellent paving stone, as well as long-lasting slate roof tiles and floor tiles, and the best billiard tables.

Travertine

Travertine is a kind of sedimentary stone that is common in Italy. The Travertine quarry in Tivoli, Italy is where the world's largest supply of slate is found. Travertine is a form of limestone. High quality travertine tends to be ivory or light beige, although it can come in a range of colours.

Methods, Restoration & Maintenance

Vitrification

With the use of various graded diamond disc or abrasive carbon pads we work the different grades across the floor surface to remove lippage, deep scratches. Levelling the floor surface to produce a deep reflective shine.

Re-grouting

The removal of existing grout and replacing with new grout. Sealing gaps and removing dirt and grime that could contain bacteria.

Sealing

By applying a below the surface impregnator sealer this method will repel and slow down the absorption of spillages into the porous stone surface.

Cleaning

Removal of spillages, etch marks, paint, glue, tape residue and surface staining.

Stain Removal

Deep set staining will require a special poultice application.

Repairs

Using a colour match epoxy resin to match the stone to as near as possible, cracks, chips, holes and voids can be repaired.
